Nigel Tunnacliffe

Before coming to Oxford, Nigel founded two purpose-driven companies. The first developed a certification standard for non-genetically engineered foods which was used by a number of restaurants. The second was a vegetable oil recycling initiative providing ready-to-use fuel for properly outfitted vehicles.

Nigel developed a startup during his Oxford studies aiming to connect rural Indian health workers with doctors in cities via low-cost mobile infrastructure, in order to facilitate remote diagnoses of rural patients. Afterwards, he joined another health startup, uBiome, as an early member. uBiome maps the human microbiome using crowdfunding and citizen science. As a company, it has collected and processed samples from tens of thousands of people, and raised $5 million from private investors.
